Shoko Festival returns: Organisers call for participants

The announcement comes as a welcome relief to fans and artists alike, particularly after persistent speculation over the past two years that the festival was nearing its conclusion. These rumors have now been firmly refuted, reaffirming Shoko Festival's commitment to providing a platform for creative expression.

Dispelling widespread rumours that the annual Shoko Festival would not take place this year, organisers have officially announced its return, opening applications for participating artists and performers. The festival, a cornerstone of Zimbabwe's arts and culture scene, made the announcement last Thursday, setting a deadline of May 16 for all submissions.

The announcement comes as a welcome relief to fans and artists alike, particularly after persistent speculation over the past two years that the festival was nearing its conclusion. These rumors have now been firmly refuted, reaffirming Shoko Festival's commitment to providing a platform for creative expression.

Shoko Festival is known for its diverse lineup, showcasing a blend of music, comedy, spoken word, and digital media. The festival has consistently attracted both local and international talent, fostering a vibrant and dynamic cultural exchange.

Last year's edition, for example, featured a star-studded lineup that included American comedian Learnmore Jonasi and South African rapper Nadia Nakai. Local artists such as Kayflow, Young Gemini, Voltz JT, and Tammy Moyo, among others also delivered memorable performances, highlighting the rich talent within Zimbabwe's artistic community.

This year, organisers are promising an even more engaging and innovative programme, encouraging artists from all disciplines to apply. The festival aims to continue its tradition of pushing boundaries and challenging conventions, providing a space for artists to explore social and political issues through their work. The festival has also been known to incorporate workshops, panel discussions, and interactive installations, creating a holistic and immersive experience for attendees.

The call for applications signals the beginning of preparations for what promises to be another exciting chapter in the Shoko Festival's history, solidifying its role as a vital platform for artistic expression and cultural dialogue in Zimbabwe.
