The heir apparent to the Dendera throne Sulumani Chimbetu will today lead his Orchestra Dendera Kings for a family show at Spitzkop Leisure Centre.

Spitzkop Leisure Centre is to the western part of Harare, opposite the Whitehouse and just 1,2km off the Harare-Bulawayo highway.

The joint has turned out to be the preferred rendezvous for local music groups.

Sulumani joins a long list of performers who have graced the joint and these include Selmor Mtukudzi, Tryson Chimbetu, Josh Meck, Albert Nyabinde, Bob “The Headmaster” Nyabinde, Agga Nyabinde, Gary Tight, Progress Chipfumo, Batsirai Shasha and Kelly Rusike, among others.

A resident group, Spitzkop Jazz Band, usually takes care of patrons when there is no live performance from an outside group.

“It’s going to be a great family show. We will have ice-cream and a catered play ground centre for the children. We will also have burgers, pizzas and hotdogs for the children,” said Takunda Maravanyika, the joint’s director.

“For the adults, we have cold beers ready and of course cocktails for those that don’t prefer beer. We have an assortment of meat ready on the braai and we have a variety of starches to go with it and these include sadza rezviyo, rice rine dovi and white sadza.

“Come and enjoy a relaxing Sunday, with good music from the one and only Sulu Chimbetu presented by the Spitzkop Jazz Band as well as some great food and cold drinks.”

Maravanyika said Covid-19 protocols will apply.

“We have plenty of parking inside the premises with our guard constantly patrolling,” he said.

“Sanitisers would be readily available everywhere and Spitzkop Leisure Centre is known for being spacious. So you won’t feel crowded and you can even sit outside and enjoy the breeze or even inside and you can still enjoy the live music.”

Maravanyika said the joint has bars both inside and outside while the same applies for toilets.

Sulu, who does not disappoint when it comes to live shows will perform tracks from his late father’s discography blended by songs off his albums including Ndomusiya Nani, Reverse Deal, Non Stop, Syllabus, Gunship, Jamboree and Entanglement.

Maravanyika said they were looking forward to hosting Poptain and Progress Chipfumo in the near future.
