The genealogy of Jesus Christ

PROSPER TINGINI

The gospel, according to Matthew, Chapter 1 verses 1-17 narrates the genealogy of Jesus Christ. Genealogy simply means the family tree or the account of descent from ancestors, which we can term ancestry.

The account written by St. Mathew reads: The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers, and Judah the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar, and Perez the father of Hezron, and Hezron the father of Ram (Aram) and Ram (Aram) the father of Ammin’adab, and Ammin’adab the father of Nahshon, and Nahshon the father of Salmon, and Salmon the father of Bo’az b Rahab, and Bo’az the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of David the king.

And David was the father of Solomon by the wife of Uri’ah, and Solomon the father of Rehobo’am, and Rehobo’am the father of Abi’jah, and Abi’jah the father of Asa (Asaph), and Asa (Asaph) the father of Jehosh’aphat, and Johosh’aphat the father of Joram, and Joram the father of Uzzi’ah, and Uzzi’ah the father of Jotham, and Jotham, the father of Ahaz, and Ahaz the father of Hezeki’ah, and Hezeki’ah the father of Mannas’seh, and Mannas’seh the father of Amos (Amon), and Amos (Amon) the father of Josi’ah, and Josi’ah the father of Jechoni’ah and his brothers, at the time of the deportation to Babylon.

And after the deportation to Babylon: Jochoni’ah was the father of She-al’ti-el (Salathiel) and She-al’ti-el (Salathiel) the father of Zerub’babel, and Zerub’babel the father of Abi’ud and Abi’ud the father of Eli’akim, and Eli’akim the father of Azor, and Azor the father of Zadok, and Zadok the father of Achim, and Achim the father of Eli’ud, and Eli’ud the father of Elea’zar, and Elea’zar the father of Matthan, and Matthan the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ.

So all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations, and from David to the deportation to Babylon fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to the Christ fourteen generations.

The male bloodline is the measure used for the family tree for the avoidance of cross-breeding.

Our biblical scriptures very often link Jesus Christ to the lineage of King David.

Consequently, Joseph the husband of Mary carries the immediate descent of which Jesus Christ was born. This literally means that according to that linkage to King David, Jesus Christ was in the blood line of Joseph.

Accordingly, this would mean Joseph was the biological father of Jesus. However, our Christianity doesn’t align with these recorded facts. Our Christianity links Christ directly with God the Creator, in biological terms.

St. Mathew forthwith gives a parallel biological link of Jesus Christ to the Almighty God immediately after his account of the Kind David and Joseph-linked ancestry.

The proceeding verses of the book of Matthew 1:18 to the end of the chapter gives the corresponding lineage of Christ with a direct link to the Lord our God.

It reads: Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child of the Holy Spirit; and her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resoled to divorce her quietly. But as he considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit; she will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he shall save people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfil what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: “Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and his name shall be called Emman’uel” (which means, God with us). When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him; he took his wife, but knew her not until she had borne a son; and he called his name Jesus.

In one of my past article with the title: Christianity of a different Christ; I mentioned that there are some sects in our Christianity that subscribe to the religious notion that Jesus Christ was already in existence at the time of Creation when the Lord God created the heaven and the earth and everything else thereon.

They claim that Jesus Christ was also part of the mastermind of that same creation. Some of our Christian hardliners vehemently state that it was Jesus Christ who created the heavens and the earth and everything else.

They misquote certain verses of our scriptures and deviate them to suite with this kind of inclination in their religious thinking.

Our Bible is very explicit as to the time period when Jesus Christ came into existence as explained in the version of the book of Matthew, chapter one, and in other books of other apostles of the New Testament.

I have come to the conclusion that the cause behind this misplaced belief is the consequence of the adoption of the doctrine of the Holy Trinity which uplifts the status of Jesus Christ to be an equal part of the man-made trilogy of God.

This was after sweeping victories in the Christian crusades.

History tells us that it was not the Christian leaders of the time who came up with this idea of this 3-in-1 Godhead representing God the Father (Almighty God), God the Son (Jesus Christ) and God the Holy Spirit.

It was in fact Roman Emperor Constantine who first mooted that ideology to the Christian leaders of his time, who rejected it instantly.

Subsequent Christian Roman Emperors of the same view managed to incorporate Christianity leadership into their political systems thus weakening their resistance to this fallacy, and they finally succumbed to the Roman Emperors’ pressure to adopt the multiplicity of our one God into three different elements woven into one.

Sustained indoctrination followed. Is Jesus Christ the flesh God? Is God the Father not the Holy Spirit?

Our Christianity was conned into fitting in with the Roman religious system of multiple gods worship to the detriment of our Christian purity, outside of Jesus Christ’s teachings.
