Becoming a sign and wonder

This is our mandate as believers to showcase the glory of God in us. I like it when Apostle Paul said “and they glorified the God in me” (Galatians 1:24). My challenge to you and I is, are they glorifying the God in you and I?

"Behold I and the children whom the Lord has given me, are for signs and for wonders…” (Isaiah 8:18).

This is our mandate as believers to showcase the glory of God in us. I like it when Apostle Paul said “and they glorified the God in me” (Galatians 1:24). My challenge to you and I is, are they glorifying the God in you and I?

“The people who know their God shall be strong and do exploits”. Would you say your life is a reflection of that scripture? We are supposed to live fruitful lives.

Jesus made it clear that “Herein is My Father glorified that you bear much fruit..” (John :8). We are supposed to have fruitful lives not barren lives because the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, King Eternal, King Immortal, the only wise God lives in us”.

It is time we started reflecting the glory of God in us. There are results that no man can produce unless they have access to a supernatural source. There are only two sources of the supernatural. It is either God or the devil if you are not truly born again, where people go and consult traditional healers for supernatural power.

I choose to use God as my Source because He is the Almighty. When God’s anointing is upon your life, the results will be self- explanatory. Nicodemus came to Jesus and said we know that you are a Teacher who came from God because “no man can do these miracles that you do except God be with them” (John 3: 1-6). The presence of God in your life will always yield supernatural results.

So how does one become a sign and a wonder?

The first key is to have deep relationship with God. You really have to know God for yourself.

It is not God of your pastor, bishop or Papa. Know Him intimately. You and I can learn from Apostle Paul - “But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted to me” (2 Tim 1:12).

This was a man who knew His God and could confess that “I am convinced that he is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted to me”.

When we know our God, fear will have no space in our lives. Perfect love casts out fear. When we become conscious of His immeasurable love for us, we know that He will always “cause us to triumph no matter what we face in life, because whatsoever is born of God, overcomes the world” (1John 5:4). David was never intimidated by challenges. He dealt decisively with Goliath who had become a source of terror and stress to the children of Israel at the battlefield.

His confidence was in His God “You come to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied” (1 Samuel 17:45). It takes someone who has a deep and full understanding of his God to be able to face a giant like Goliath without fear.

David could do exploits because he knew his God. “For by You, I have run through a troop, and by my God have I leaped over a wall” (Psalm 18:29).  It takes God’s divine power or anointing to be able to do what David did. This is a clear testimony that in order for you and I to be able to do exploits, it takes an intimate knowledge of God and belief in His promises to be able to live a life of signs and wonders.

It is important to spend time in the Word. The longest Psalm, 119, is all about the Word of God. It is therefore critical that one spends time in the Word in order to know Him not about Him. Every time you believe, God gives you power to become. You can’t become before you believe.

The second key to living a life of signs and wonders is faith. Faith is about obedience. Faith is your persuasion, your conviction that God is able to do whatever He says He will do. God has given us “exceeding great and precious promises” but it is up to us to appropriate them through faith. I like what Mary said when people had run out of wine at the wedding of Cana –“Whatsoever He said to you, do it” (John 2:5). We should always do “whatsoever” He tells us according to His Word.

As believers we have to learn to walk by faith not by sight. However, it is impossible to walk by faith if you are ignorant of the promises of God.

Your level of faith is determined by the depth of your knowledge of the Word of God. Abraham was called Father of faith because “he staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strong in faith, giving glory to God and being fully persuaded that, what He had promised, He was able also to perform. As a result of this kind of faith it was counted to him righteousness.

It takes faith to walk on water like Peter did. If you want to walk on water, you have to have faith. In other words, if you want to have a life of signs and wonders you have to walk by faith not by sight. You and I have absolutely no excuse because God has given all of us “the same measure of faith” (Romans 12:3). Apostle Peter, talks about being  “ ..a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Savior Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 1:1). The same faith that Peter had, you and I also have. However, we have to grow in faith and faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.

God is a faithful God. He is not man that He should lie nor son of man that He should change His mind, has He said and shall He not make it good?” (Numbers 23:19). His promises are yes and amen. The challenge with most of us believers is that we only have mental assent but never believe the Word of God. It is one thing to quote the scriptures and yet another to believe or walk by them. It takes faith to have a life of signs and wonders.

The third key to living a life of signs and wonders is spiritual empowerment. One needs the anointing of the Holy Spirit. This anointing transforms you from being a mere believer to a witness. You become a validator of God’s promises. Your life needs to be a testimony of the grace, mercy, goodness and power of God. It takes the Holy Spirit to enable one to live such a life. Acts 10:38 “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power, who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil, for God was with Him”. Isaiah 61:1-3 says “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me because He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor, He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound”. It takes the power of the Holy Spirit to be able to do all these things. Without the Holy Spirit, you and I can never fully experience the abundant life that Jesus Christ came to give us.

If your life is to become the manifestation of God’s glory, you need the power of the Holy Spirit. He is our enabler. My challenge to you and I is to live a life that demonstrates the power, grace, favor, and goodness of God. We were meant for signs and wonders as God’s workmanship.
