The Chitungwiza Fun Run is sanctioned by National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (Naaz) through the Harare Athletics Board (HAB), and will be run under the International Association of Athletics Federation (Iaaf) rules and regulations.
The latest edition of the company’s long distance running events will see professional athletes as well as casual runners converge at the mall in the town of Chitungwiza for the share of $6 500 which has been set aside for the prizes in various categories.
In addition to the main event — the 10km open race — there will be a 5km race in the wheelchair, veterans, masters and mistresses, grand masters and grand mistresses and secondary school pupils categories.
Winners in the 10km categories stand to win $500 while the 5km length victory carries $100 prize money.
In a statement, Old Mutual Zimbabwe Group marketing executive, Lillian Mbayiwa, said the integrated financial services group was interested in encouraging and promoting health and wellness among communities.
“The objective of hosting the Chitungwiza Fun Run is to further show Old Mutual’s commitment to Zimbabwe, the town of Chitungwiza and Athletics in Zimbabwe. While we are doing so, we would also like to increase awareness of the Chitungwiza Shopping Mall, which is a secure one-stop shop,” she said.
