Matabeleland cultural awards date set

Categories up for grabs are weavers, carvers, rural huts decorators, traditional leadership, traditional dancers, traditional regalia designers and traditional cuisines among others.

MATABELELAND Cultural Awards (MCA) Trust has set November 11 as the date for its fourth edition of the cultural awards.

While making the announcement yesterday, MCA chief executive officer Philani Ncube said the fourth edition of the cultural awards will be held on November 11, 2023 in the face of economic challenges ravaging the country.

“We will be holding our awards covering the whole of Matabeleland as we have already issued a call for submissions for different categories to participate and also appeal to the people and corporate world to supporting this noble event.”

Categories up for grabs are weavers, carvers, rural huts decorators, traditional leadership, traditional dancers, traditional regalia designers and traditional cuisines among others.

The awards come two months after the MCA held the 5th edition of Umthwentwe International Cultural Expo in August where the South African maskandi musician Thokozani Langa was billed to perform, but failed to come due to logistical glitches.

The cultural expo was held on August 25 and 26 at the Youth Arena, White City, Bulawayo.

Exhibitors showcased various traditional work by weavers, carvers, crafts work persons, traditional food cooks and local indigenous languages authors, among others. Ncube urged all those who seek to participate to enter for the awards to be held at the Bulawayo Art Gallery.
