SDA joins drug abuse fight

Drug abuse

THE Seventh Day Adventist Church held a child dedicated service in Emganwini, Bulawayo on Saturday to fight drug abuse currently affecting the country’s young.

Emganwini Seventh Day Adventist church district pastor Obadiah Ngwenya said the service was held under the theme: There is Peace in the Midst of a Storm.

Ngwenya said 77 children participated and dedicated themselves to God.

“Among them were 25 non-Adventists, who were accompanied by their family members. Child dedication is a service that acknowledges that God is the only one who knows how to safeguard children,” he said.

“God protects and guides the children and baptises them with the Holy Spirit. The whole assurance of protection comes from God so that children are protected from all the social ills of this world.”

One of the non-Adventist residents who participated at the event, Thusani Ndlovu, said she came with her two children to dedicate them to God so that they get protection in an unjust world.

Ward 26 councillor Mpumelelo Moyo said: “It is important for the church to take a leading role in the fight against drug and substance abuse, and to groom young people to become responsible citizens.”
