US$52k expecting mothers’ shelter for Chirundu

Zanu PF Chirundu ward 1 councillor Tinashe Chiwanza commended government for partnering with the community to construct the shelter estimated cost US$52 000.

GOVERNMENT is constructing a shelter for expecting mothers at Chirundu Border Post, Mashonaland West province, following reports that pregnant women were travelling long distances to access maternity services.

Zanu PF Chirundu ward 1 councillor Tinashe Chiwanza commended government for partnering with the community to construct the shelter estimated cost US$52 000.

“I want to commend the community and the government for working together in this noble project. With the expectant mothers shelter, Chirundu will never be the same again,” said Chiwanza during a tour of the project.

“It was the growing need from the community that pushed us to construct the shelter. Expecting mothers used to travel as far as Karoi, Harare or Chinhoyi to get assistance.

“At one point, there was a woman who unfortunately died in Zambia due to poor facilities.”
