Chipinge man jailed for attempted rape

The court heard that on August 6 this year, the girl was returning from the river when she met the man who tripped her.

A 24-YEAR-OLD man from Chipinge has been slapped with a three-year jail term by the Beitbridge Magistrates Court for attempting to rape a 14-year-old girl.

The court, however, suspended one year of the sentence.

The court heard that on August 6 this year, the girl was returning from the river when she met the man who tripped her.

In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe said the man pinned the girl to the ground before removing her skin tight and pants and attempting to rape her.

The girl screamed for help and the man covered her mouth while threatening her with an Okapi knife.

She, however, fought back and overpowered the assailant.

The man fled with the girl’s pants and skin tight.

The girl reported the matter to the police leading to the man’s arrest.
