Villagers resisting from Plumtree’s Mabhongane area are living in fear of a pack of lions that has been preying on their livestock at the local dam where they water their animals.

Several villagers said as many as 33 beasts have been killed by the lions since January.

“It is the only dam where villagers take their cattle to drink water only to be attacked by the lions,” said local farmer Difa Dube.

"We have made several reports, but the problem animals are still causing us sleepless nights with no action being taken.”

Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) spokesperson Tinashe Farawo said the authority has not received such reports.

“They can also report to the rural council offices because we work closely with rural councils across the country,” Farawo said..

“So if there is no ZimParks office near them, they can always report to the nearest district office.

“If we get that report, our officers would respond within the shortest possible time.”
