A 20-year-old woman appeared before the Harare magistrates court for allegedly fatally assaulting her daughter aged four.
The suspect, Memory Moyana, from Mabvuku was last week remanded in custody to January 2.
She was advised by magistrate Rufaro Panavanhu to approach the High Court for bail.
Prosecutor Takudzwa Jambawu alleged that on December 16, a neighbourr, Lorraine Makore, saw Moyana whipping her daughter.
Makore later saw the minor emerging from the house with bruises on her chest and mouth as well as bloodstained clothes.
She confronted Moyana for violently assaulting her daughter. Moyana later dragged her daughter into the house, and that was the last time she was seen alive.
Later during the day, Moyana and her husband were seen carrying the lifeless body of their daughter to visit a prophet.
She was declared dead by the prophet, and a police report was filed leading to her arrest.
