15 people dead in road traffic accidents

Police said the accidents happened in Norton, Chegutu and Mutare. In the first accident seven people were killed while 12 others were injured when a Nissan Caravan with 20 passengers veered off the road and overturned at the 30km peg along along the Harare-Bulawayo highway.

At least 15 people died in four different road accidents last Friday as the carnage on the country’s roads continues to worsen.

Police said the accidents happened in Norton, Chegutu and Mutare. In the first accident seven people were killed while 12 others were injured when a Nissan Caravan with 20 passengers veered off the road and overturned at the 30km peg along along the Harare-Bulawayo highway.

Three adults and an infant died on the spot  while three others succumbed to the injuries upon admission at Norton Hospital.

In another accident on the 85 km peg on the same highway, three people were killed while two others were injured when a Chevrolet Trailblazer with five passengers collided with a Toyota Hilux with seven passengers.

Two people were killed while nine others were injured when a Toyota Toyoace truck with 11 passengers veered off the road in Chegutu. All the passengers were thrown out of the vehicle.

In Mutare, three people were killed when a Volvo haulage truck with three passengers veered off the road and overturned before landing on its roof along the Harare-Mutare road near the Wise Owl turn-off.
