A Harare woman has been granted a protection order against her son whom she accused of violent behaviour whenever he is high on drugs.
Mercy Chidzamba accused her son Tendai Chitera of also stealing her belongings to fund his drug habits.
“I have no peace in the house as he comes home at midnight drunk, breaking television sets and windows,” she submitted.
“I tried to reprimand him, but he then becomes violent to an extent that he can hit me with objects.”
She also told the court that she feared for her life as Chitera sometimes assaults her.
“I am tired of my son,” she said.
“He is behaving like a mental patient; he insults my genitalia in-front of people embarrassing me.”
Chidzamba said she applied for a protection order against her son as she did not want to throw him out of her house as she feared he can easily become a street kid.

In response, Chitera denied the allegations, but admitted to taking drugs.
Chitera was, however, ordered to stop intimidating and harassing his mother as well as disturbing her peace.
