TELONE FC were left to rue a tale of missed chances in the second half after their winning streak ended at the hands of visiting Herentals College FC at Ascot Stadium.

They lost 1-0 with Clemence Gobvu scoring The Students' goal early in the first half to seal the narrow win.

Herentals now sit on 45 points while TelOne remain stuck on 38 points.

The first half was a drab affair throughout, with both teams slow to move out of their boxes. But Herentals went to the break with springs on the steps, as Gobvu thrust them into the lead after seven minutes.

Gobvu was quick to react on the counter, benefiting from a neat interchange that was spurred by Tinotenda Benza before slotting the ball home.

After the break, TelOne got a number of chances which they failed to convert with Herentals goalkeeper Takudzwa Chikosi putting up a good show to keep the home side at bay.

Blessing Sahondo, Blessing Sibanda, Washington Navaya and Nkosiyabo Masilela all had clear chances at goal but failed to hit the target in the second half.

TelOne gaffer Herbert Maruwa blamed his men for complacency especially after enjoying four consecutive wins.

"This is because of complacency. We did not focus and they got the chance which they scored," Maruwa said after the match.

"For now, we keep our heads high and hope to rise in the next match. Its still game on. If we managed to win four games, then we can still win the remaining games."

His counterpart Celestine Benza heaped praise on his team after the win.

"We needed this win. It's good for us, and we hope to win more. We have won against tough teams. Now we have to remain focused and hope for a strong finish," Benza said.
