Small, but classy field for Tankard

Sport
The line up is headlined by Only Him from the Bridget Stidolph yard who opened betting at  3/1 with Mr Greenlight from the Vanessa Birke stable way off at 20/1 in the betting.

By Michael Katiati A SMALL, but classy field of 13 runners has been accepted for the Castle Tankard to be run over 2 000 metres at Borrowdale Park Racecourse on May 7.

The line up is headlined by Only Him from the Bridget Stidolph yard who opened betting at  3/1 with Mr Greenlight from the Vanessa Birke stable way off at 20/1 in the betting.

Only Him has a favourite draw of four, but has a weight disadvantage of 57,5kg.

Mr Greenlight whom the bookmakers are giving little chance also has the weight disadvantage of 57,5kg but is well drawn at three.

Another entry not being given a chance of lifting this Castle Tankard is Citrusdal which will be ridden by Morgan Nyamagwete who is at 18/1.

Also considered with little chance is Heir Line who is at 10/1. The Debra Swanson entry will be ridden by Wes Marwin and is badly drawn at 10 but has a good weight of 52kg.

Delta Beverages Lagers General manager, Tich Rinomhota was the first to place his betting putting US$200 on Lille Blue from the Bridget Stidolph yard who is on 4/1.

Stidolph herself fancies her runner’s chance. “He is good shape to win. We will see how far we can go in the next two weeks,” said Stidolph who along with Debra Swanson and Thomas Mason were at the unveiling of the acceptances.

Finchatton, who won the OK Grand Challenge as an outsider at 12/1, opened betting for the Tankard which is 200 metres shorter than the Challenge at 33/10.

All in all the Tankard looks appetising with the seasoned Three To Tango who will be carrying 52kg and running on lane 12th also at 4/1.

All in all, Stidolph has four horses, Birke and Swanson have three each, Thomas Mason has two, and Ghokan Terzi has one.

The Castle Tankard was introduced in 1960.
