THE ‘Bicycle Instead of Car’ art exhibition which started yesterday (Saturday) in Harare is set for its final day today.

The two-day exhibition, fronted by the City of Harare and Munich (German) showcases creations by seven artists, displayed throughout the city centre.

The initiative aims to raise awareness about climate change and encourage residents to embrace cycling as a healthy and sustainable way to get around, rather than using motor vehicles.

The first day of the exhibition coincided with the World Bicycle Day, which is commemorated annually on June 1.

CaliGraph, Gerald Bakasa, Thandiwe Gula-Ndebele, Sandra Ndoro, Crystal Beseni, Maxwell Chembedzi, Ngaatendwe Mapako are the participating artists, and the event is being curated by Markus Heinsdorff from Munich and CaliGraph.

“The ‘Bicycle Instead of Car’ exhibition aims to spark conversations about the environmental impact of car usage and encourage residents to consider cycling as a viable and sustainable mode of transportation,” said organisers of the exhibition.

“The City of Harare is actively seeking to reduce traffic congestion and air pollution, and this exhibition represents a creative approach to achieving these goals,”

“The ‘Bicycle Instead of Car’ exhibition aspires to inspire positive action towards a more sustainable future.

“By placing art at the forefront of climate change discussions, the City of Harare hopes to encourage residents to embrace cycling and contribute to a cleaner, healthier environment.”

Harare and Munich have enjoyed a strong partnership for over 25 years as twin cities.

This project exemplifies the collaborative spirit between the two municipalities.
